XIII. STATEMENT OF FAITH
- We
believe in the Scripture of the Old and New Testaments as verbally
inspired by God, and inherent in the original writings, and that they
are of supreme and final authority in faith and life;
-
We believe in one God, eternally existing in
three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit;
-
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ was conceived
by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, in order that he might
reveal God and redeem sinful man. We believe Jesus Christ accomplished
our redemption through his death on the cross as a propitiatory and
substitutionary sacrifice and that our redemption is made sure to
us by his resurrection from the dead in the identical, though glorified,
body in which he was crucified.
-
We believe that man was created in the image
of God; that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death,
but spiritual death which is separation from God, and that all human
beings are born with a sinful nature, and, upon becoming morally responsible,
are lost.
-
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died
for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried and rose from
the dead for our justification and that all who believe in him are
born again by the Holy Spirit, thereby becoming children of God.
-
We believe in the physical resurrection of
our Lord Jesus Christ, in his ascension into heaven, and in his present
intercessory work as our high Priest and Advocate.
We
believe in the bodily resurrection of the just (saved) and unjust (lost),
the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting conscious
punishment of the lost.
